The Health Portal, launched at the end of last year, has become an essential tool for preserving Estonians’ health information. Now, it has received a significant upgrade – the nationwide digital registration system has been integrated into the portal.

Over the past year, several key updates have been made to the Health Portal’s homepage, or dashboard view, including improved displays of family doctors' digital service platforms. “We are pleased to announce that the Health Portal has received yet another significant enhancement – the nationwide digital registration system is now integrated into the portal. This means that the previously standalone online booking system is now conveniently available within the same environment that holds all other personal health data,” said Evgeni Nikolaevski, Product Manager of the Health Portal.

You can access the digital registration system by logging into the Health Portal with your ID card, Mobile-ID, or Smart-ID and clicking on the "Appointments and Referrals" tab or the "Open Registration" button on the dashboard. There, you can view your upcoming appointments and, starting now, book appointments and examinations directly through the portal.

According to Nikolaevski, the goal is to create a comprehensive and user-friendly state portal that consolidates all essential health information in one place. “Integrated solutions help save time and provide a better user experience. Moving the nationwide digital registration system to the Health Portal is not merely a technical change but a step towards providing convenient access to healthcare services,” Nikolaevski added.

The Health Portal is developed by the Health Insurance Fund (Tervisekassa) in collaboration with the Health and Welfare Information Systems Center (TEHIK) and external development partners. Kady Adamson, Product Owner of the Health Portal at TEHIK, emphasized that the primary objective is to make managing health data and accessing healthcare services as convenient as possible. “People no longer need to navigate between multiple systems – everything necessary is now conveniently in one place. For example, users can easily view their upcoming appointments, search for new time slots, and even review their booking history,” explained Adamson.

Additionally, the system’s usability has been improved: search functions are now more precise, free and paid appointments are clearly distinguished, and bookings are confirmed quickly. “We deliberately made efforts to create a system that allows people to focus on their health instead of technical obstacles. For instance, it’s now easy to add bookings directly to a personal calendar, which is a great everyday convenience for many,” noted Adamson.

Adamson stressed that the Health Portal, developed in cooperation with Tervisekassa, serves as every Estonian’s gateway to healthcare services, providing access to personal health data and various services. “This is not just a technical upgrade but an important step towards improving access to healthcare services. Our goal is to make using healthcare services so simple and transparent that everyone feels encouraged to take an active interest in their health,” added Adamson.

The development of the digital registration system was carried out in collaboration with Tervisekassa, the Health and Welfare Information Systems Center (TEHIK), Iglu OÜ, Industry62, and Snowhound.
